SALEM, Ore. – On Wednesday, the Oregon Lottery launched the much anticipated OR sports betting app, Scoreboard. Scoreboard is the only legal sports betting app in Oregon and offers wagering opportunities for most professional sports including odd for the NFL, NBA, MLB, MLS, and more.

“This game allows the Lottery to attract new players – increasing revenue for important state programs without relying on current players to play or wager more,” saidBarry Pack, director of the Oregon Lottery.

Scoreboard is available to download from the Apple App Store for iPhone users. Android users will have to download the app straight from the Lottery’s website. Scoreboard can also be accessed directly online for those using a desktop or laptop computer.

Anyone over the age of 18 can create an account. The app and website are both geo-fenced, meaning that only those that are located inside the borders of the state can bet on sports in Oregon.

While this is the first and only mobile sportsbook to launch in the state, tribal casinos were the first to offer traditional sports gambling in Oregon.

Land-based sports betting in Oregon launched in late August at Chinook Winds Casino Resort. So far, this is the only retail sportsbook available in the state. The Oregon Lottery plans to add in-person sports betting at certain Lottery retail locations next year.

One important distinction between the tribal gaming facility and the Oregon lottery offering is that tribal casinos offer odds for collegiate sports in Oregon while the lottery doesn’t.

Scoreboard is still expected to generate a large amount of money to the state’s general fund.

The app can accept deposits as high as $250,000 at a time, making it very appealing to high rollers. While this may cause some concern over the potential for problem gambling, the app and the state lottery do have measures to counteract this.

Scoreboard will allow gamblers to set a limit on how much they want to spend. If bettors go past that limit then the app will send them notifications informing them that they have done so. Problem gambling services are also free to the public if any serious issues should arise.

The money generated from legal sports betting will be decided by Oregon voters, according to Chuck Baumann, a spokesman for the Oregon Lottery.

“Over the course of time, Oregon voters have voted to include public education as a beneficiary, state parks, watershed enhancements (and) most recently, veteran services and outdoor school,” said Baumann. “So Oregon voters are the ones that decide where lottery dollars go.”
